The opening ceremony for the 19th Wuxi Taihu Lake Cultural Tourism Festival was held on May 21 in Nianhuawan scenic area in Binhu district, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

During the ceremony, organizers announced that 39 activities will be held throughout the year. These events include a fruit picking activity at the Dragon Temple Ecological Park and water games in Nianhuawan, both of which will take place this summer.

Come autumn, Binhu will stage a firework display during the Mid-Autumn Festival, a concert, a half-marathon and a family sailing race, among other events. Bird watching and a festival where people pray for blessings will be organized in winter.

A video competition that lasts until the end of August was also launched at the opening ceremony. Vloggers are encouraged to make videos about scenic spots in Binhu and upload them to Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, to participate in the contest.

Binhu also released a virtual mascot called Bingo to represent youths in the district during the ceremony.

The district has called on local financial institutions to increase their support for the cultural tourism industry. It also invited talents from scientific institutes and leading companies to take part in camping and night running activities.
