The classic Xiju Opera play, The Pearl Pagoda, by Wuxi Xiju Opera Theater was staged in Latisana, Italy, on Oct 25, following two successful performances at the MuTh Theatre in Vienna, Austria.

The theater was full, with many Italian viewers experiencing Xiju Opera for the first time and deeply engaged in the story. As the plot developed, they held their breath during tense parts, chuckled at funny scenes, and felt satisfied with the warm ending where lovers are reunited.

"The costumes and headpieces of the actors were stunning, and the music was poetic!" said a local audience member. "Although I am not familiar with the story's background, I could sense the authentic emotions conveyed." Another audience member said that, although the performance style differs from Italian opera, it is just as dramatic and captivating.

During the tour, the troupe also organized flash mob events in Italy to promote Chinese culture and participated in cultural exchanges with art institutions.

Wuxi is one of the main birthplaces of Xiju Opera, a national intangible cultural heritage of China, and one of the three major opera genres in East China. The opera boasts a large audience.
