The Wuxi Museum has made the list of national first-class museums, the China Museums Association announced on Dec 21.

The Wuxi Museum was rebuilt at No 100 Zhongshu Road, Liangxi district and rated a national second-class museum in 2012.

It is a comprehensive museum that focuses on local history and art. The impressive 67,000-square-meter building, located at the south end of Taihu Square, is the largest public cultural facility in Wuxi.

The building hosts the Wuxi Revolutionary Museum, the Wuxi Museum, and the Wuxi Science Museum, and the 14,000-square-meter exhibition area displays more than 20,000 exhibits.

The evaluation and grading of museums is based on things like the comprehensive management and infrastructure of the museum, the management of collections, scientific research, exhibitions, and public services. The system divides museums into three classes.

In recent years, the Wuxi Museum has increased investment in protecting cultural relics, introduced scientific research equipment, and begun training relevant talent. It has spent over 10 million yuan ($1.53 million) building an independent cultural preservation and technology department, improving restoration labs for cultural relics, and carrying out protection projects for movable cultural relics.

In addition, the Wuxi Museum has applied the latest technologies to develop its online branch, offering AR lessons and online exhibitions and live streaming speeches to visitors.
