The third and fourth courtyards of the former residence of Qian Zhongshu in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, opened to the public on Jan 4 after three months of renovation.

Located in Liangxi district, the former residence consists of four courtyards where renowned Chinese writer Qian Zhongshu spent his boyhood.

Covering about 1,600 square meters, the first two courtyards of the residence were built by Qian's grandfather in 1923 and the additions were constructed by his uncle in 1924.

The architectural characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and the West are perfectly integrated in the building. Qian's grandfather named the house Sheng Wu Tang to encourage descendants to study hard and live in harmony.

The recently opened courtyards are divided into exhibition, reading, salon, and entertainment sections.

The study has been transformed into an exhibition hall for Qian's literary works, and visitors can also learn about the creation of Fortress Besieged, the most renowned work by Qian, by watching a film.
