Chenxi Park, nestled on Xingchangnan Road in Liangxi district, is the first barrier-free park in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, local media reported on Aug 13.

Starting from the main entrance, all the paths in the park are paved for visually impaired people, with wheelchair-accessible pathways available for wheelchair users to pass through.

The park's touring route is heart-shaped and divided into four areas for quiet leisure, diverse activities, image display, and a botanical garden.

In the diverse activities area, the sign language corner provides a place for hearing-impaired people to communicate, and the life experiences of well-known individuals with disabilities showcased on the wall are expected to inspire the visitors.

Considering individuals with visual impairments, the park has implemented handrails featuring Braille inscriptions with essential details about the park and its diverse array of flowers. Furthermore, the park leverages the distinct scents, textures, and colors of the vegetation to enrich their sensory encounters.

Feeling tired from walking, visitors can relax at the park's coffee house, boasting cool and comfortable air conditioning, Braille books displayed on the shelves, and colorful handicrafts.

"In recent years, our city has been creating parks with an all-age-friendly concept. Specialized parks such as the Chenxi Park are emerging like mushrooms after the rain," noted Hu Zhaozhong, director of the greening management office of the Wuxi municipal administration and landscaping bureau.

He added that more specialized parks focusing on cycling-friendly environments, intangible cultural heritage, and other themes will be established in the city.
