The Wuxi Chinese Orchestra embarked on a European tour from Feb 14 to 27, delivering seven concerts across Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Hungary, as part of the "Happy Chinese New Year" international tour program.
During the Chinese New Year period, Wuxi — a UNESCO City of Music — used traditional Chinese music to share the festive spirit and warm greetings with European audiences.
The tour's inaugural concert on Feb 14 took place at an arts center in Brussels, Belgium. Under the baton of young conductor Sun Peng, the orchestra performed Spring Festival Overture, which resonated throughout the concert hall. This was followed by the enchanting melody of Dream of Taihu Lake, offering European audiences a taste of the unique charm of Chinese folk music and the cultural essence of Jiangnan region.

As the performance concluded, the orchestra's rendition of Horse Racing, featuring local musical instruments, was met with prolonged applause and cheers, prompting many in the audience to rise in ovation. A local music critic in Brussels noted that the performance beautifully showcased the rich depth and artistic allure of Chinese folk music.
The dazzling premiere in Brussels marked a significant beginning for the Wuxi Chinese Orchestra's cultural exchange in Europe, further enhancing Wuxi's reputation as a UNESCO City of Music and promoting international musical and cultural exchanges.
During this extensive European tour, the orchestra deployed an ensemble of over 80 members, establishing new records for the largest group ever assembled, the longest tour duration in its history, and the highest number of performances by Wuxi orchestras in a single international tour.
